2023 has been another great one for horror movies so far, particularly if you’re a franchise fan. The franchise of Scream and Evil Dead have already returned to become a massive success with Scream VI (2023) and Evil Dead Rise (2023), but The Conjuring with ‘The Nun 2’ will soon make its haunting return in September 2023. Continuing from the hit 2018 prequel, Valak, played by Bonnie Aarons, returns as the demonic nun. With the movie releasing this fall, NECA(National Entertainment Collectibles Association) has also revealed their new Valak figure that will have horror fans shivering.
A horrifying sequel to The Nun, starring Bonnie Aarons, Taissa Farmiga, and Storm Reid, is coming to theaters soon in September; fans should prepare for goosebumps. Aside from this sequel, The Nun 2 director Michael Chaves also teases more horror to come. While fans eagerly await the movie’s release, the new bone-chilling teaser has already irked more excitement among them.
Director Michael Chaves Says ‘The Nun 2’ May Not Be The End Of The Line For ‘Valak’
Director Michael Chaves, 38, sat down for an interview with SFX magazine and discussed ‘The Nun 2’ upcoming horror and Valak’s terror in the film. Taking place exactly five years after the original Nun‘s debut, the film is set to come out on September 8, 2023. Halloween is also right around the corner, which means the sequel will arrive in time.
During his interview with SFX magazine (Via GamesRadar), Michael Chaves asked about Valak’s returning in another sequel, and then he smiled and said,
“There’s a line in the movie: ‘Demons are infinite.’ I like the idea that she’s always been here in different forms. I think that there’s still more stories of Valak, the demon nun, to be told.”
The director also confirmed in SFX magazine that this sequel is part of The Conjuring universe. Chaves continued, “Definitely, it plays a part.”
Chaves added,
“I wouldn’t want to give anything away, but this is continuing the timeline. Anyone who saw the first Conjuring knows that Maurice is possessed and then exorcised by the Warrens, and we know that that happens in the late ’60s in the Conjuring timeline. This is set in the ’50s so we’re still a ways off from that. “
He continued,
“The events of what happens in between this starts to fill out that story a little bit more. There’s other big ideas and big swings in there, and it’s filled with a bunch of cool Easter eggs. Without giving anything away it continues to fill out the picture and the bigger canvas.”
During his interview with the media outlet, Chaves potentially hinted at the making of ‘The Nun 3‘ but revealed that ‘The Nun 2‘ is the most violent in the Conjuring Universe to date. An additional factor contributing to this fear is the sense of unease that comes with the corruption of the sacred in this new instalment of The Nun Francise. As far as religious believers are concerned, what they find blessed is a holy, pure source of positive intentions and safety.
A New Bone-Chilling Trailer Teases Taissa Farmiga’s Return To ‘The Conjuring Universe’
The film ‘The Nun 2’ is set to give horror fans yet another chance to see Sister Irene played by Taissa Farmiga, 28, face off against Bonnie Aarons as Valak (also known by its alternate avatars, Crooked Man or The Nun).
Adding to the excitement, the makers released a new bone-chilling teaser on Twitter, which shows Sophie, a young schoolgirl, telling Sister Irene that “something doesn’t feel right” at her school.
After that, we watch as a couple of schoolgirls are haunted by Valak in the teaser. Sister Irene hunts for the demon that’s plaguing the school in this clip that delivers scare after scare.
The Nun 2 will continue to expand The Conjuring Universe and serve as a direct sequel to The Nun from last year. It is unclear what the upcoming feature will be about, but the marketing material that has been released to date paints an eerie picture. Bonnie Aarons is promoting her latest film Jakob’s Wife, which just came out. In a recent interview, Aarons was asked about The Nun 2. While she could not provide any concrete updates, she expressed her confidence in Warner Bros. and New Line to deliver the next chapter in the franchise successfully.
