Actors and writers in Hollywood are currently on strike, delaying production on some of the world’s biggest movies and TV shows. According to reports, Hollywood actors’ and writers’ strikes may delay the release of Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic ‘Dune: Part Two‘ to 2024. Despite the strikes not specifically stopping the release of films, actors and writers may be neglecting to publicize their work due to the action.

Dune: Part Two

In light of two contentious Hollywood actors’ and writers’ strikes, Warner Bros. Film Group is reportedly considering pushing its upcoming movies to 2024 or possibly revising their release dates. According to reports, in addition to Dune: Part Two, ‘The Color Purple,’ ‘Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom‘ have also been included in the list of release date revisions by Warner Bros.

Dune: Part Two Could Be Pushed Back To 2024; The Color Purple And Aquaman 2 Could Also Have Revised Release Dates

In response to the Hollywood actors’ and writers’ strikes, Warner Bros. film group reportedly plans to release the sci-fi sequel, Dune: Part Two in 2024 so that stars like Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya can promote it.

Sources close to the Warner Bros. film group told Variety that the film, which is a co-production with Legendary Entertainment, may be moved from the current slot of November 3 to the following year. Both Warner Bros. and Legendary would need to agree to change the release date. At this time, Legendary Entertainment allegedly has not been approached by Warner Bros. about a potential shift.

According to reports, Legendary Entertainment decided not to attend SDCC, which would have allowed fans to see the sequel in Hall H. The sequel is scheduled for release in November, so that marketing will benefit the film regardless. Aside from top star cast Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet, Austin Butler and Florence Pugh also have massive fan followings, so the film’s talent should have no trouble creating buzz. What to expect from Dune Part Two is that we will see that Frank Herbert’s Dune saga will continue in Part Two, with Paul Atreides rising to become the messiah as in Part One.

Per sources, Warner Bros. is also evaluating possible new dates for ‘The Color Purple,’ a musical movie with Oprah Winfrey on the production team, and the DC Studios sequel ‘Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom,’ both of which are expected to hit theatres soon.

Hollywood Actors And Writers Are On Strike For What Reason?

As of last week, approximately 65,000 Hollywood actors reportedly have taken up picket signs to demand higher pay amid inflation and a rapidly evolving entertainment industry. Over 170,000 workers will refuse to perform any part of their jobs in the most significant industry shutdown in 60 years. The A-listers have been out in full force since the beginning of the strike, switching the red carpet for picket lines.

According to reports, the WGA and SAG-AFTRA have joined the picket lines, bringing Hollywood to a grinding halt. Many issues are involved in the Hollywood actors’ and writers’ strikes, but one of the most contentious is the right to use artificial intelligence likenesses owned by individual humans. Several studios have asked to use the rights of actors, including extras, to scan their bodies, voices, and other features so they can create AI likenesses and hold those rights in perpetuity. This is a legitimate reason for the actors and writers to be upset.

Despite the actors’ solidarity with writers and fight for improved working conditions, this summer’s major blockbusters continue promoting without their talent. Although writers’ strikes have considerably impacted film and TV production and related activities such as award shows and publicity events, an actors’ strike will have a far more significant impact.
