After searching for a new leader, ‘The Daily Show‘ brings Jon Stewart back to the news desk once a week. The Comedy Central show will feature the 61-year-old host on Mondays, and the rest of the week will be led by the team of correspondents until the 2024 presidential election cycle. After a year of looking for someone to take over for Trevor Noah, the original host, and Noah’s predecessor, Jon Stewart has agreed to return every Monday night until the 2024 election.
The famous American Comedian-host is making a comeback, turning back time to host (Part-time) and produce ‘The Daily Show‘ weekly but on a major basis. Known for his 16-year stint as the host of the Comedy Central program, Stewart left a lasting mark, making it a significant force in entertainment and culture.
Jon Stewart, an American comedian, writer, producer, director, political commentator, actor, and television host, helmed a satirical news show on Comedy Central titled ‘The Daily Show‘ from 1999 to 2015. Additionally, he hosted ‘The Problem with Jon Stewart’ on Apple TV+. Now, he’s ready to bring his wit and humor to the familiar news desk for a weekly dose of laughter.
Jon Stewart Returns To ‘The Daily Show’ As Monday Host & Executive Producer
Just a few months after Jon Stewart, 61, unexpectedly left Apple TV Plus, he’s coming back on ‘The Daily Show’ at Comedy Central. The show, where he was in charge for 16 years starting in 1999, will now have him as the host every Monday from February 12th and executive producer. Other familiar faces from the show will take over for the rest of the week.
Variety reports that ‘The Daily Show‘ has been searching for a new host since Trevor Noah left in 2022, and they’ve decided on Stewart’s return this February. Chris McCarthy, the President/CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, called Stewart “the voice of our generation.” He believes Stewart’s political insights will be valuable, especially with the 2024 presidential election approaching.
Chris McCarthy stated, “Jon Stewart is the voice of our generation, and we are honored to have him return to Comedy Central’s ‘The Daily Show’ to help us all make sense of the insanity and division roiling the country as we enter the election season.”
“He continued, “In our age of staggering hypocrisy and performative politics, Jon is the perfect person to puncture the empty rhetoric and provide much-needed clarity with his brilliant wit.”
Throughout its history, ‘The Daily Show,’ initially hosted by Craig Kilborn, then Stewart and Trevor Noah, has humorously criticized both the left and right by portraying the media as a character and keeping it straightforward, no matter how absurd. The show, recently awarded an Emmy for Best Talk Series, has been without a permanent host since Noah’s departure last year. Stewart can now share his thoughts more openly, and it will be fascinating to see if he talks about the news that Hasan Minhaj was almost chosen for the job.
Trevor Noah’s Sudden Exit From ‘The Daily Show‘ In 2022: A Closer Look At His Exit
On September 29, 2022, Trevor Noah, 39, surprised everyone, including his staff, when he decided to leave ‘The Daily Show.’ It was his seventh anniversary as the show’s host, and he took a few extra minutes during that night’s program to thank his audience. The producers allowed it as long as he kept it short because there was much to cover that evening.
Trevor Noah left the satirical current affairs show on a positive note, having received 15 Emmy nominations, one win, and being named one of TIME’s 100 Most Influential People. He had taken over from the legendary John Stewart in 2015 and had successfully made the program his own.
Noah’s decision to leave was to end on a high note. During the September 29, 2022 announcement, he deviated from the teleprompter and expressed gratitude for the incredible seven-year journey.
He said, “And I just found myself grateful for the journey. It’s been amazing, and I found myself thinking about everything we’ve gone through—the Trump presidency, the pandemic, more pandemic—and I realized that after seven years, my time is up.”
He mentioned reflecting on their challenges, including the Trump presidency and the pandemic and realized it was time to move on. The announcement caught the audience and even Noah’s staff off guard. Showrunner Jen Flanz recalled that they were surprised and decided to finish the taping before discussing the matter further.
